Persia (At the time called Fars or Pars), year 1296 of our calendar.

Chazan is on the throne, Muslim ruler of the Kingdom of Pars. A young man, not directly in line to the throne, Prince Arslan, conspires against the crown and accumulutes an army of rebels. Hard-pressed by the army, who defeated on of his fellow conspirators, Prince Arslan retreats to his stronghold of Pil-Suvar (Peshwald). He ended up losing the war against General Bailaqan, and was executed the 29th of march of that same year.

Even if our young hero and the real Arslan (whose name means "lion") have little in common other than their flight to Pil-Suvar (Peshwald), the geography of the animated Pars and the ancient Pars is very similar. Ekubatahna existed, and was a capital city before it was taken by the Muslim Kings (it would not be the capital anymore by Arslan's time), as do most of the cities on the map. Even names have significance. For example, the Elamites were the people who lived on the Pars territory before the Persians came. They were defeated, slaughtered, and put into slavery. This could be how the little slave boy's name, Elam, was chosen.

But there are a few discrepancies. Arslan's religion, which in the anime seems polytheistic and reminiscent of Zoroastran religion (Misra / Mithra, Ashi / Astari), had not been the religion of the Kings for many centuries.

In 320, whether of our own calendar or of the Persian calendar, there was no Arslan historically recorded in the lineage of Pars.
